A Special Pediatric Clinic in our city is closing and the parent of two kids who used it is very upset.
The Pediatric Integrative Medicine Clinic at the U of A has helped many families diagnose and treat rare and complex medical conditions.
Kristina Perkins was told the clinic was closing because of a lack of referrals. But, she says she's not buying it because she knows plenty of families on the waiting list there. She thinks the closure was brought on by the province as a way to trim the health care budget.
Perkins took both of her children to many doctors around the city before finding the PIM Clinic. She says, "That first night my daughter didn't wake up crying from heart burn I cried. I thought 'finally some relief for her'. It was such a long time coming, and for my son it was just as effective. It was really life changing".
Perkins says closing the clinic will actually cost the province more money, because desperate parents will have to see many different doctors and specialists who aren't able to help their kids.
