Alberta Budget Day: public agencies brace for cuts

Albertans are being warned that everybody will hurt a little from the new provincial budget being released today.

For the past year, Premier Ed Stelmach has been promising a $2 billion ``fiscal correction.''

Unions and public agencies have been bracing for job and program cuts.

But Finance Minister Ted Morton says the cuts have been spread around rather than targeting one group.

Liberal Opposition Leader David Swann says the government need to protect the most vulnerable Albertans.

Wildrose Alliance Leader Danielle Smith says there's no point in building schools and hospitals if the province can't afford to staff them.

So Smith is urging the Tories to delay major spending on building projects for a few years in order to avoid any further budget deficits. (cp,blb)

Finance Minister Ted Morton will be announcing the budget live at the legislature this afternoon at 3:00pm. Listen LIVE to our coverage.
