For the second-straight year, Montreal Alouettes' quarterback Anthony Calvillo is the CFL's most outstanding player.
Calvillo received the award for the third time in his 16-year career, Thursday at the CFL's awards banquet in Calgary. He beat out Stampeders' running back Joffrey Reynolds.
Calvillo, 37, enjoyed a banner '09 season, leading Montreal to a CFL-best 15-3 record. His passing completion average, of 72%, was the best he's enjoyed since joining the league in 1994 with the expansion Las Vegas Posse.
Calvillo was one of three Alouettes to receive awards. Scott Flory was named top lineman, while kick-returner Larry Taylor captured special-teams honours.
The team the Als will face in Sunday's Grey Cup (4:30 p.m., 630 CHED), the Saskatchewan Roughriders, had one winner Thursday night. Defensive lineman John Chick was named top defensive player.
The B.C. Lions had three award winners, despite finishing fourth in the West Division. Defensive end Ricky Foley took home the trophy as the league’s outstanding Canadian, while running back Martell Mallett was chosen the top rookie and coach-GM Wally Buono was the recipient of the Commissioner’s Award.
