The Calgary Roughnecks (2-3) scored five unanswered goals in the second quarter of a 13-8 win over the Edmonton Rush (3-2) in National Lacrosse League action on Friday night.

Josh Sanderson had a game-high six points and Tracey Kelusky, Dane Dobbie and Scott Ranger notched five points each as the Roughnecks win for the first time in four games and avenge a January 30th loss to the Rush at Rexall Place.

Kelusky, Sanderson and Ranger gave the Roughnecks a 3-0 lead within the first nine minutes, before Edmonton forward Ryan Powell responded with a pair of goals before the end of the opening quarter. The same three Calgary players got on the board again to start the second quarter, before Jeff Shattler and Craig Conn got on the scoresheet to make it an 8-2 game.

The Rush outscored the Roughnecks 2-1 in the third quarter, getting goals from Scott Stewart and Dean Hill but they were unable to build on that in the fourth, where the each side scored four times.

Gavin Prout led Edmonton offensively with two goals and five points, while Matt Disher made 40 saves in the losing cause.

The Rush are in Toronto to face the Rock next Friday. (jk)
