Former Edmonton Oilers' tough guy Georges Laraque is throwing his considerable weight behind the Green Party of Canada.
Recently released by the Montreal Canadiens, Laraque will be playing an undetermined role with the political party. He reportedly isn't ruling out running in the next federal elections.
He made the announcement Saturday in Montreal.
Laraque was approached by the Greens after expressing interest in the party in a TV interview.
The longtime NHL scrapper, who played with the Oilers from 1997-2006, is a vegan. That means he doesn't eat meat and animal-derived products like milk and eggs.
Laraque was released by the Habs last month, right after scoring his only goal in two seasons with the team.(The Canadian Press/bp)
