Panhanding Performers

Is it just me or does it seem that there’s a direct correlation between the uncertainty in the economy and the increase in the number of panhandlers in our city?
 
It seems that these days a trip to the grocery or hardware store is automatically accompanied by someone asking for money in the parking lot. On more than a few occasions I’ve been tempted to suggest that the person go into the big box hardware store and fill out an application because God knows there aren’t enough people working in there!

Now don’t get me wrong, I have a hard time saying no. I’ve given away $5.00 more times than I care to remember and that’s fine by me. What they do with the money after they thank me, bless me and walk away is entirely up to them. I just feel good thinking I’ve helped someone.
