It’s been a pretty good run for current and former Strathcona County councillors of late.
First former councillor and Strathcona County Mayor Cathy Olesen was nominated to run as the Progressive Conservative candidate for Sherwood Park in the upcoming (presumably) provincial election, taking the place of retiring longtime MLA Iris Evans.
Now current Ward 5 Coun. Jacquie Fenske has been announced as the Progressive Conservative nominated candidate for the Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville riding on Wednesday.
She will be taking the place of Special Ed in the riding, which includes a portion of Strathcona County, after former premier Ed Stelmach also opted to step down.
It is a bit of a vindication for Fenske, who looked to be a shoe-in for the PC nomination to take over from Ken Epp in this region as a Member of Parliament.
