The board of Fort Edmonton Park doesn't want to take no for an answer.

The idea is to add that name to the name of the South Campus LRT stop, only the city's naming committee said "no."

"I just don't think they got it," laments board chairman Doug Goss, who says the idea was to have visitors to the city take the LRT to the stop he'd like to call "South Campus/Fort Edmonton Park."

"The only way you're going to do that is if you market it and sell it as such and that's the whole point. For them to say 'gee it seems like a long ways away why would we do that?' means they're kind of missing the whole point of it."

"We'd love to be able to ticket people with ticket booths right when they come off the LRT station at that stop."

"Really your park experience will begin as soon as you get off the LRT station you'll be picked up at 'South Campus/Fort Edmonton' LRT station, which is a four minute ride down that nice bridge that they've built along Fox Drive, where you'll be dropped off at the front door."

Goss says the same service would work the other way for your trip back home.

"We want to be able to tell all of our visitors whether they're staying at the MacDonald Hotel or the Sutton Place Hotel or the Westin, that they have access to one of the best attractions in the city by using the public transportation system."

The naming committee rejected the plan unanimously because they thought it would be too confusing since the park and the campus are too far away from each other.

The board will try again, this time taking the appeal to city council's executive committee next Wednesday. (sj/gb)
