The President and CEO of the Calgary Flames thinks the city of Edmonton is extremely fortunate to have a guy like Daryl Katz willing to give millions of his own dollars to help build a new NHL arena.
Speaking on 630 CHED's Oilers NOW, Ken King thinks the city needs to realize the enormous opportunity it has to build a "community asset" with a private partner.
"This isn't about wealthy people, and it isn't about giving money to rich people to build buildings and do their business." He adds, "This is about community assests, and we should all be exceedingly greatful for the Daryl Katz's and the ownership groups in markets (like Edmonton)."
King thinks the public-private model of building an arena is the only type of model that can work in a market like Edmonton, which is considered a "small market city" when it comes to NHL revenue standards. (lk)
