An Edmonton company is voluntarily recalling one of its products in Canada and the US after solving one problem created another.
Kinnikinnick Foods specializes in gluten-free baked goods for people with dietary restrictions. It's been forced to recall 3,000 of its' pie crusts because egg doesn't appear as an ingredient on the label.
Kinnikinnick CEO Jerry Bigam says the problem started when the company ran out of packaging for the crusts.
"At the same time we had a minor change in one of our ingredients, so that we had to change the labels for the packages." he says. "And unfortunately, when we printed the new labels out which were applied to the boxes, eggs were missed out on the new label."
Because eggs can cause potentially life-threatening allergic reactions in some people, the crusts were recalled right away. Bigam says it took just a few hours to inform all of the company's North American distributors about the problem. (ms)
